HERRADÓN DE PINARES

AVILA, SPAIN

Saint Vincent Crag

Four kilometers Northwards, on the way to Ávila, we can find the ruins of an old hermitage known as Saint Vincent Hermitage, which is believed to have been built by the Moors.

The site is beautiful and may be accessed by a path known to only a handful of people. It is dangerous and very steep.

There is a legend that tells that on top of it there is a treasure which was never found by archeologists or onlookers coming from different places. The only remains are some clay pots and inscriptions on the hermitage stones.

It is very likely that the treasure never existed and that the search for it aided in the destruction of the chapel.

From the very top one can make out the village, the whole valley, and the Royal Trail.
